The Server Message Block (SMB) Protocol is a network file sharing protocol, and as implemented in
Microsoft Windows is known as Microsoft SMB Protocol. The Common Internet File System (CIFS), called
(SMB), is a network protocol which is used commonly for sharing files on
a Local Area Network (LAN).CIFS is a fairly high-level network protocol. In the OSI model, it is probably
best described at the Application/Presentation layer.
